manifesto
I had to write a goofy “manifesto” and ended up liking it a lot. incomplete and subject to change, lowercase on purpose
core tenets:
- understand the world
- love strongly
- friends, friends, friends
- honesty, levity
work and the field of ai:
- work hard, play hard
- be proud of what you do
- cautious optimism
understand the world
- not much else to do
- its a big, wonderful world, and the only way to honor that is to try to understand it
- understanding the world does not reduce your awe of it
love strongly
- I love love
- no need to shy away from adding more of it to the world
- more love is not a bad thing
friends, friends, friends
- they are the greatest wealth you can possible obtain
- connection is what generates the previous two tenets
You’ll forget what you meant when you read what you said And yeah, we knew you were tired, but then Where are your friends tonight? Where are your friends tonight?
honesty, levity, authenticity
- being honest is quite fun, actually
- being lighthearted is too and doesn’t reduce the quality of your work
- makes everything easier
- childlike wonder, a whimsical demeanor, and unadulterated joie de vivre
work hard, play hard
- work to play and play to work
- don’t do anything if its not all the way
be proud of what you do
- at the end of the day u need to be at peace w/ urself and what u do
- this is the way to do that
cautious optimism
this is explicitly referring to AI, the progress of AI, and how to approach it
- shit’s crazy
- there are insane promises on all sides. take them and judge them for youself. we’re likely gonna end up somewhere in the middle
- keep your cool and keep your head
